Hi Deneb,

Yeah - dating is probably even more complicated these days.

If you want male company, why not join a group - photography, drama, dancing, whatever YOU are interested in. I always think that this is a good way to meet new friends in general.

My husband & I were simply friends at first. Believe me, it is an excellent basis for a relationship. And if your friendship(s) just remain friendships, you have the bonus of having some new nice friends.
