I always did office work - secretarial stuff.
My most interesting job was working as a personal assistant for a deaf-blind young woman named Mae Brown. I should actually look on Google to see if here story is there! She had an operation at 17 years of age (brain tumour); wasn't told that it could end up with her being deaf, blind, or BOTH - which is what happened.
The CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) helped her & eventually she went to university with an "interpreter". Got her degree & then CNIB created a job for her in charge of Deaf-Blind Services & I (who worked there already in Social Services Dept) was chosen to be her Secretary/Personal assistant sort of thing. It was really interesting. VERY challenging for someone as shy as I was, because everyone would look. Here we'd go down the hall with me holding her arm, while communication in the deaf-blind language on her hand. She'd go to schools & give talks, etc (with me being her ears). Pretty stressful though!
Currently, my interest/hobby of pottery is combined with me teaching handbuilding classes - only about 4 - 6 a year, but I really enjoy it.
Thx for interesting topic.
