In reply to Sum1 explain 'rapid cycling bipolar' please, posted by Fivefires on October 13, 2007, at 20:22:19
i have been dx'd as BPII rapid cycling. There is a decent article here:
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/452865the criterion which distinguishes it is the frequency of epsiodes. Four or more distinct episodes in a 12 month period. This does not mean just mood flucuations, but distinct episodes. Episodes must meet the other diagnostic criteria (ie, not caused by situational or other medical/pharmacological factors).
i like this guy's site too:
http://psycheducation.org/depression/Waves.htmhttp://bipolar.about.com/od/rapidcycling/a/laymensrapid.htm
i have seen several articles reference its inclusion in the DSM-IV, but i haven't seen it there myself.
Is there something specific you'd like to know? Bmail me if you want.
i hope it's not what you have, it's very difficult to treat. Mine is actually utlra-rapid at times and treating it is difficult as it takes longer for the meds to work than it does for the mood to change.
anything i can help with, i'd be happy to..
