Hey!
Wow, I don't think I've ever met (or heard of) anyone never having taken the bus before. Anyway I can't/won't/don't drive/have a car, so I take the bus all the time! Actually, I usually cycle, but sometimes the distances are just too far, or the weather abit too difficult to cycle in. Anyway!
Bus riding -- its really great, I love watching all the different people, the feeling of being part of a community - I always think that people get lonely sitting in their cars all the time by themselves - and its just a nice experience, IMHO.
But then, I live in Europe, and I get the impression that public transport isn't so popular in the USA as it is here (although NYC and Boston and others seem to have good transport systems. But I don't really know). Anyway. I like it alot! And, also, it is my main mode of transportation besides cycling. Now, don't get me started on the joys of cycling everywhere! Since, I've started that, I've dropped 15lbs, and all I do is stuff myself! Anyway.
So. I love riding the bus! Its nothing to be scared of! Get on, pay your fare, select a seat (which is ooooo such a decision! The teenagers usually hang out the back, the older ladies sit up front. I'd suggest somewhere in the mid section).
Anyway don't American's ride that yellow bus thing to school?? I thought all kids took that yellow bus. Or so films/TV shows etc suggest.
Happy bus riding!
Meri
Although you might find taking the bus a hassle at first, it soon becomes second nature. And just think of the enviromnental brownie points you'll earn....
Its nothing to be scared of. Just remember to press the buzzer to stop the bus in plenty of time for your stop (or I don't know how it works in the US). And make sure you have the correct fare in coins...some buses don't give change...they don't it much when you present a 50euro bill to them! Check out the bus company website too (if such a thing exisits).
Its just fear of the unfamiliar..... go do it! You'll have a great time! I love bus riding! Although I think my all time favourite is train riding......I find it quite relaxing. I once took the train from London, England to Lisbon, Portugal all by myself. It went through Paris, and the Spain.... and took a couple of days.
