Oh, I know that feeling! Even tho at my own and most salons, they'll tell you that you can swing by to have just the bangs trimmed for free in between full hair cuts, I always end up trimming my own, since it's "so easy." Ha!

This sounds like a case for:

A mousse or styling lotion with decent hold distributed throughout the bangs, and blow dry them using brushes and fingers to both lift them off the forehead and push them into a loose side part or at least slightly off-center. Then when dry, kind of pull the bangs in little random chunks upwards from the roots and to the sides, hair-spraying as you do so. If I managed to make any sense with that, it will look like a jaunty flurry of "piece-iness," which is cute.

If they're too heavy to hold the above shape, you could get them razored/thinned/broken up a little, which will also soften their effect if they're too thick and solid looking for your taste.

Or: Sometimes I've used one of those delicate little clips (i.e., a bobby pin thingy with a rhinestone flower on one end) to secure at least one side of the bangs close to where the hairline and face meet. Wearing a clip there is still popular, and if you can hide just one side of too-short bangs, it will open up your forehead a lot again and obscure the effect you don't like.

Or! Since really wide headbands or scarves worn around the head are in style too, and are sometimes worn very near the hairline at the face, you could try pushing them all back and hiding them under one of those. I found some really wide cloth headbands that look like scarves (but stay in better), and love them.

And lastly (for the moment anyway), very short bangs can be a great look on some women, and make a "sophisticated statement;" whereas on others it may be too cutesy. It's hard to describe the kind of facial features and shape that it seems to look best on, but you probably know what I mean. However, you may also think you're not constructed that way, if you're hating them already. But maybe all you need is to get them evened out (probably by a professional lol, since you're down to the wire now) and then once you're used to it you may actually like it! Or not hate it anyway.

Ok, there are just a few ideas from someone who has worn her hair the same way since she was 14, and actually has no patience whatsoever for styling it! :) Good luck!
