Hi Jay,
As much as I hate gender-based generalizations, it seems men need to use a different approach on those sites than women. The dating advice I've read says that men need to send out 10 messages to get 2 or 3 replies, and they rarely get unsolicited messages. So waiting for women to contact you, or expecting a high percentage response rate may not work. You might need to approach more women and be prepared for plenty of "no thanks" or non-responses.
