> Okay, someone I worked with at my college's writing school, has recommened me for talking to incoming freshman about how the writing center helped me. They asked me to give several talks this summer.
> I am surprised I was recommended first of all, but scared out of my mind. After my last music performance I am shaking in my shoes about doing anything in front of an audience. I told her I would think about it, she sent me an email today, I told her I needed to know more what she wanted from me. I just don't know what to do. It would be good experience, but I am scared.Sooner or later you will probably have to speak to large groups of people, so you might as well get it over with. I did a Dale Carnegie course in public speaking, which was quite useful. There are also books on public speaking that you could read. The first time is always bad, by the way, so don't feel too deflated if it feels like a flop afterwards.
Conquering your fear of public speaking is an excellent way to build self confidence by the way. If you can handle many people simultaneously, then one or two people at a time is like child's play.
