I agree, shamelessness and humiliation is a current theme in modern comedy.
I enjoy Sacha Baron Cohen also known as Borat, Ali G and Bruno. He often lures his subjects into unwittingly making provocative statements and engaging in embarrassing behavior, as well as leading them to contradict themselves, often in the same interview. His characters' prejudism, openness and naivety seems extremely cantagious, efficiently exposing subjects double standards. Sometimes he goes to far and I just feel sorry for his victims.
Alan Bennett, never heard of him. I will try to remember his name next time I'm in a bookstore/library.
