You had a very wise friend, I think. I'm very sorry you had to experience the pain, but it was a wonderful gift you gave to that dog.
As the shock wears off a bit, I'm starting to think more how fortunate we've been to have her in our lives for however brief a time it will be. She brought so many smiles, and opened my husband's heart a bit wider to joy.
