I've gotten braver by degrees. Go slow with 'natural' looking highlights first. Later you can work up to a 'chunkier' look (bigger sections of hair are lightened). Then you'll be ready for 'lowlights' (same as highlights but with a darker color instead of a lighter one, usually used along with the highlights), which I haven't really done yet. Getting the underneath a dark color is kind of an inbetween step - not as bold as streaks of a dark color throughout. Next time I'll do that I think.

Yeah, they can be expensive. That's why I've been coloring it myself for so long. But this chic had a special going on that was really good, so I decided now was a time to splurg. Of course now I have to worry about keeping it up, but maybe I can afford it now with my new better paying job!

That reminds me of my Chinese friend I used to work with. Instead of saying, 'a long time ago', he would say, 'long times ago'. We became close enough that I could make fun of him until he stopped saying it. He made fun of me about stuff too. That was just how our relationship was.

He taught me how to count to 10 in Cantonese. I had to demonstrate it for his parents when they came over from Bejing for his wedding. They said I did well. What a hard freaking language. There are different ways of saying a word that sounds exactly the same to me. Like, 'Wong' is a name, and also means 'dog' (I think that's the right name). He'd say, one is 'wong', the other is 'wong'. I never could tell the difference.

His wedding is when I fell in love with Chinese babies. Their hair sticks straight up! Its so cute! I told him if I hit 40 without having a baby I'm going to adopt a Chinese baby.

Actually I love all babies. Which ever one I'm with is always my favorite.
