> Hey~i am sorry to hear about Hammie but it does sound like *pink eye* to make it simple. I know in the US, there are now drops available OTC and if u have them there, they may help.
I posted my concerns about Hammie on this hamster newsgroup and someone told me to us a cotton swab and contact lens solution to very gently swab his eyes. I didn't have to do that, his eyes are better now. :-)
I'm starting to think it was some kind of eye infection. This is the second time this has happened. Last time his eyes were closed for only 2 or 3 days.
>Also take a warm wash cloth and wipe Hammie's eyes so he feels better.
I did the warm wash cloth thing. I hope it helped him a little.
>A vet will upset Hammie, cost you a fortune and few care for hamsters.
I haven't found a vet who treats hamsters yet. I don't know how much it costs, but I'd feel horrible if I let Hammie suffer just because I wasn't willing to shell out some dough. I agree that the vet would upset Hammie...that is why I want to avoid a visit as much as possible. The trip in of itself on the bus and everything, out in the cold and stuff, would be very tramatic and stressful for Hammie.
>I had a hamster when i was younger, Herbie, and i loved him so much so i know how u feel. Herbie wld. sleep w/ me on my pillow and slide down his chute into his play cage every morning.
Ooooh, that sounds soooo cute! I can just imagine. :-) I love the name Herbie btw, Herbie, Herbie, Herbie...it's adorable.
>When he was 3, he passed away but i know he had a good life and got through it.
It sounds like Herbie lived a full and comfortable life. :-)
