I have never visited there, although my husband's family has been there many times. I was looking forward to going next year for a conference. Nothing's been said about whether this conference will be held there or not, but it's a huge conference with thousands and thousands of attendees, and it will take a lot of effort to rebuild that quickly. I hope it does go forward, though, because that will mean that lives are better for the people of NO, too.
And I'm very sad that it will never be the same, and I will never have the opportunity to see the city as you remember, CS, and as my hubby and his family do. It's worse than never being able to see the Stones in concert (I refuse to go now, as I can't imagine it would be anywhere near the same as when they were younger).
I suppose the moral of the story for me is not to wait to do some of the things I've always dreamed of. Life as we know it is too short.
I should start saving for a trip to Europe ASAP. Good incentive to finish my degree and start earning money instead of spending it on tuition.
