Matt,
I agree with rainbowbrite, "normal" is a very wide range.You know, this disaster is affecting all of us, and it may be that you are feeling worse right now because of what's going on, and the helplessness and worry many of us feel. And you are seeing the effects of it directly, as refugees come into your city. That brings it much closer to home (no pun intended) for you, and that must be scary.
Throw in your family difficulties and starting college, which can be very stressful, and you've got a lot on your plate. It's understandable you might be feeing down. You're not abnormal.
Can you let your pdoc know you are feeling so low?
