In reply to My 1st call to the Poison Control.... yippeee, posted by spriggy on August 4, 2005, at 0:34:47
Hi Spriggy, I don't post on this board too often but I had to respond to this. I had my 1st Poison Control call about 2 months ago (well, hubby made the call, not me) -- my son, 16 months at the time, got into one of my bags which OF COURSE was the one with the bottle of Excedrin. Somehow, my ingenious little devil managed to get the *child-proof* cap off and eat somewhere between 2 and 4 tablets. All of this in the space of 5 minutes while hubby had run off to use the bathroom (I was at work). So we all spent the next 5 hours in the ER. They had to give him an enormous quantity of activated charcoal (little guy struggled so much it got everywhere, he was black from head to toe) and take his blood 4 hours later. And of course the medical staff treated us like idiots, like we don't KNOW medicines are supposed to be out of reach of children... I don't think they took into account the ingeniousness of toddlers!
And yes this is our first child... we're off to a great start! :P
