I love shoes. My feet are the only part of me that’s a standard size. I can’t find clothes that fit properly (too tall, too fat); I can’t find hats that fit properly (small head) but I can buy shoes any day of the week (or I could if I didn’t have three kids to feed).
Six months ago I had forty five pairs of shoes. I had flat shoes, high heels, short boots, long boots, very long boots (!), red shoes, green shoes, running shoes, dancing shoes, football boots, walking boots, shoes for work, shoes for parties, shoes for going to the beach and shoes for going out to dinner…
But all those shoes took up a lot of space and I was expecting my third child, so six months ago I had to say goodbye to half of them. Now I only have 22 pairs of shoes.
And the saddest thing is that since I became diabetic I’ve been advised that comfy shoes are a must. If I wear shoes that rub or pinch I risk getting injuries that won’t heal and could lead to amputations… So all my prettiest shoes are gone. I particularly miss the brown platform sandals that added six inches to my height (bringing me up to 6’5”). But they were just not diabetes-friendly.
However, I recently bought a pair of pink kitten heel shoes covered in sequins, so I can’t complain too much.
