> While I share your socio-political stance on the distribution of wealth in this county, being born with a silver spoon does not insure happiness. Wealthy adolescents have uncommonly high rates of suicide, anorexia and bulemia, chemical misuse and other self-abusing behaviors. It's as if priviledge is some sort of handicap to building character. There's something to be said to being raised like you, where your hard work is the main reason you transcend the limitations of your environment. See, you never thought you'd feel so fortunate to be poor. : ) Toph
>Hey Toph,
Yes, you are very correct that depression and mental illness crosses all financial boundaries. Not that I want to exclude someone who has wealth, but there is such a big link between homelessness, drug use, and mental illness. It's getting VERY bad in Toronto, when us Canadians are *supposed* to be good people who look after one-another. The truth is, though, I have many friends from all over the world who work in the area of social policy, social work and justice, and borders don't mean much. There are people who care...this board is a good example, and tons of giving, heartfelt people around the world. Anyhow..sorry for the long answer...but yes, I do completely agree with you. And yes..I will say this as many times as needed..I *am* a very lucky person. I have a roof over my head, a clean warm bed, lots to eat, wonderful childhood, but this depression and anxiety tends to blind you from these things. Well...back to *another* med experiment..lol.
Best,
Jay
