What I meant by 'maybe you wouldn't be smart, funny, and kind if you were raised in a different environment' is that maybe you wouldn't have these traits to the high degree that you do.
I am sorry to hear that you had a sh*t time of it growing up :-(
I do often wonder though, whether people who have had such a crap time of it may also have a greater potential to end up better people than if they had had a 'satisfactory' upbringing.
I don't know.
That isn't to condone it or anything like that. But I often think that I wouldn't value compassion and empathy and kindness as much as I do now if I hadn't had my upbringing. I wouldn't work on myself as much. I may have been a lot more judgemental toward others (like streetkids and drug addicts and beneficiaries so forth).
I don't know...
