Understanding the questions - even more so.

e.g.,

'if a tree falls in the woods and there is nobody there to hear it then does it make a sound?'

Depends what you mean by sound
IF sound is vibrations on the eardrum
then if there ain't an eardrum around
THEN there is no sound.
Whereas IF sound is a 'thing in the world' not in the ear, well
THEN yes. It does indeed.

(Of course then the real question becomes 'and what is the nature of sound? Is it a thing in the ear or a thing in the world? I think there is no easy answer to that one...)

(Sorry, I am in a very literal frame of mind today)
