amy,

I don't seem to notice my introversion online even when there's friction with people. But in my day-to-day life I try to keep my encounters down to a minimum. For every hour with people, I need two hours to decompress, digest, and rehash.

When I run out of recent events, I start ruminating about the past. I relive all my worst moments, not the good ones.

I didn't leave the house for almost a year at one point but now I'm getting out more. I have two friends and a daughter in town - and that's about it for human contact.

one psychologist said I'm "morbidly shy". I'm doing better though. Quit drinking and started cymbalta a month ago. Hope to work part-time someday.

Have you taken the enneagrams test (I probably spelled that wrong)? It has 9 basic personality types with subtypes or "wings". I took this test years ago and came out an idealistic "reformer" which fits with the INTJ or INFJ. I struggle with the need to be right and fix the world. (something I'm working on in the borderline skills course) Perhaps this is so overwhelming I have to live in isolation.

The enneagram test is as good as Meyer-Briggs IMO and really nails the nuances of each personality type from healthy to unhealthy states. When you figure in all the levels of health (9) and subtypes there are hundreds of possibilities. A "healthy" reformer, for example, has a whole different set of behaviors than an extremely unhealthy one.

I guess people do "intrude" on my mental space in that I can't get them out of my head. I also can't deal with noise.
