It REALLY does get easier. When I first quit I took up running. Ha ha. I could barely walk to the corner without getting winded. After about one year I could jog a mile. I also drank gallons of water and wrote nonstop in a diary. Oh, and I also used to go stand near smokers and do passive smoking (Second hand smoking) it's a heck of a lot cheaper and helped with the nicotine cravings. Everyone who was an expert told me how wrong this was to do, but for me it worked - everyone is different. I stopped needing to do this after about 6 months. A little after a year I stopped having the smoking dreams and now it's been about ten years and I have kept the five pound weight loss and attempted to deal with lots of the emotions the cigarettes were helping me to bury. I discovered that I really am a horrible bitch (My apologies to dogs everywhere) and it's very empowering! Anyway, goodluck and hang in there! I'll be thinking of you and sending healthy lung thoughts your way!
