Angela,
Hopefully you are on the Psychobabble Open page when you hit chat. I assume you are. Sometimes it takes Forever! to load, and my screens freeze at times, too.
Also, some firewalls make it difficult to get in to Babble.
Do you use yahoo IM? I am about to go into Open, and you could try piggy backing if you send me an IM
