D**n it, Dinah!!!

LOL, that whole thread about mothers getting inappropriate presents for us must really have stuck in my subconscious, because I just had one of those "wow" moments this morning.

When my mother doesn't have pressure on her, like Christmas or birthdays, that pressure that she *must* pick out a gift for me, she gets me the most wonderful things. She gets me gifts that I didn't know I wanted until I got them, you know what I mean?

Now, mother does not wear jewelry, no pierced ears because that's body mutilation, she just isn't that sort. I think she thinks it's vaguely sinful to adorn the body for appearance's sake. Yet, somehow, I'll show up to take her to the grocery every so often, and she'll hand me a pair of earrings -- and they're invariably something I'd never have looked at, never think of wanting, and as soon as I see them I *know* that they're being added to my short list of favorite earrings. In fact, there are now three pairs on that list -- I picked out one pair, mother gave me the other two. And every time I wear either pair, I get a lot of "WOW!! Those earrings are amazing!" comments -- I mean, strangers coming up to me on the street to say it.

And she got me the perfect book a few years ago: "101 Ways To Avoid Reincarnation" Considering all the bickering we do about things like taking medications instead of just experiencing the misery I must deserve since I feel it, that really was an inspired choice.

So, I gotta say, I can't complain about my MomCat anymore. Whatever the inappropriate gifts were, they're so far in the past as not to apply at all.

On the other hand, thank you for bringing up the topic that made me really see that, and I guess self-prescribing and self-medicating ain't such a total washout, huh?
