For a long time I kept my problems under wraps because it was important to me to be seen as a competent adult. For a long time I was hassled because I didn't have a career. Having kids took that pressure off, but I didn't want to be seen as someone to be pitied or (fill in the blank).
When my father was dying I really wanted to talk to him about my difficulties, which I felt had created a rift between us, but it was too late.
So I don't know. I'm all for removing stigma and moving toward health care parity, but not at the cost of being in deep weeds w/ the family.
