Thanks for the words of concern, they are very much appreciated. I suppose I'm concerned because my mother had a murmur, and in her case it was due to a defective aortic valve.
Basically, a murmur indicates that a valve is not functioning properly. Sometimes it's a valve that doesn't completely close. Sometimes the valve leaks. As the function of the valve decreases, the blood flow to the body diminishes.
Here's hoping that all's well. I'll let you know how the echo goes.
