OK, if being an engineer makes someone a geek, mea culpa. I think that the real test of geekdom should include something other than one's desire for computational power on ones' wrist. Anyone can wear a watch, tacky or otherwise.
I have the resistor color code in my head. I can go from hex or binary back to decimal in my head, going the other way sometimes requires paper. And yes, I know that Intel and Motorola don't like to talk to each other without a bit of re-ordering. I'm a bona fide 100% all american engineering geek
If though, one has used a slide rule for performing real-life calculations, that's something that really steps you up a rung on the geek ladder. I looked in my collection... I've 3 standard linear slide rules. I also have a circular one that calculates G level, Displacement and Frequence if any two items are known. I wouldn't wear any of them though.
I haven't met any engineers who weren't geeks, with the exception of those who got engineering degrees, but have only worked in sales. They can get away without being geeks.
Dee.
