Shut 'em down! That's both cheaper and safer!!!
So far the only folks to benefit from "clean, safe, and inexhaustible Nuclear energy is the investors. The plants are mostly shut down for crisis or maintenance anyway. Some plants only produce for 1 month each year. The investors fleece the government because, "You already built it. You don't want it to be unsafe, do you?"
The knowledge of Nicola Tesla is forbidden simply because he proved that with the right engineering, you could get electricity to run your house for free from the differential between earth and sky. Call it controlled (managed) lightning. Focus it from the earth, through the light bulb or motor or refrigerator (etc) out to the sky and voila. Free power. The government forced him to take his secret to his grave.
The truth is, it wasn't a permanent secret. Tesla wasn't a God, just a man. So some other man solved it, too. ...and another, and another. It won't be long now.
