met with misadventure - a euphemism?

Posted by octopusprime on March 6, 2004, at 0:34:11

i was reading a news story about a missing man today.

the police said they searched his apartment and they believe "he may have met with misadventure"

seems like a euphemism to me ... have people heard this as a euphemism for suicide? murder by getting involved in the wrong crowd? i'm thinking it's a euphemism for suicide ... just wonder if anybody here has heard of what this police euphemism really means.
