Mmmm, I skipped this topic the first few times I saw it - I thought it was about orthotics or something. You know those pressure-point-stimulation flip-flops with the gazillions of little rubber prongs?
Anyway, now I'm here ... and maybe ... hoping ... DaisyM will show up soon too.
Now, to the transference issues ... I think I've found a pair of shoes that could love me. And they wouldn't require monogamy. Alas, I won't be buying them (unless they end up on the clearance rack) because they're just too expensive and outfit-specific, and I'm saving shoe money for the elusive pair of perfect black pumps. I found a pair of Stuart Weizmans that are the right shape, but the heel is just too high.
Letting myself wear heels was a huge signpost for me on my exploration of femininity as an integral aspect of my life. An earlier shoe-shaped signpost was wearing fashion boots (vs. construction or hiking or winter or other functional boots). Eventually I'll move on to combine these ...
Colorful shoes have also been a big step. I have a pair of ... oh, dear I should really just get a digital camera and make a site for my shoe-wardrobe, as a reflection of my emotional state.
Shoe care is another aspect of this reflection. My mother said she could always tell when I wasn't doing well as a kid (depressed, though not dx'd, since 6-7) by the state of my shoes. Most of the time I only had one pair, and generally I cleaned and polished them every Sunday. Now I sometimes do a routine clean-care-polish sweep of my footwear, and I try to maintain them - I use wooden shoe-stretchers in all of my boots and in whichever shoes need them, and I buy good sole inserts and change them as necessary. But I'm doing rotty-rotty bum-bum right now, and my workhorse pair of clunky shoes is looking kind of sad, to my critical yet tired eye.
> I have this pair of tan suede slides
so P, these are backless? I have yet to own a pair of backless heels ... I was in love with a pair at an outlet a few years ago, and now of COURSE they would match half of my summer work wardrobe ... which does pose the question of whether I could wear backless heels to work? They'd have been a perfect way to transform a work outfit into a going-out thing, except that I rarely go out, mostly just obligatory stuff!
Oh, another aspect of shoes: trouser length corresponding to heel height.
And one more thought ... references to *sharing* shoes brings out all kinds of OCD impulses I never knew I had. Strikes me as kind of like sharing a toothbrush. (One of my sisters used to say, "I LOVE friends that have the same shoe size as I do!" eeeewwwwwwwwww.) I know there are disinfectant sprays, but at least in my shoes, the leather adjusts to the shape of my foot, and I wouldn't want to share that unless the house was burning down and some guest was barefoot.
