I used to love handing out the candy to the munchkins, trying to comment on each costume (but sometimes they came in such droves it was impossible) and reassuring the frightened wee ones. I always tried to be the candy hander outer in the family.
The neighborhood I moved to when I married is so quiet in comparison. We get maybe five or six trick or treaters and most of the house lights are off.
My parents street seemed to love Halloween. There was usually at least one block party going on. And judging by the sheer numbers of little tykes (my mother had three hundred last year), I suspect that people travel to trick or treat there.
We went there this year, and the activity was down some from when I was little but still the upper half of the street was as lively as ever. We stopped to listen to the fifties music of the block party a block away.
