I can certainly understand why it was important to have a psychiatrist who was involved, when your dad wasn't. I am fighting issues which stem to my mother being there, but never understanding any emotional issues (my therapist calls it "disengaged"). When I find someone who can be there for me like she can't, I latch on tight.
