Sounds like the way things have always been.
I'm certainly glad I'm not living in a time of public lynchings, Witch trials, stonings, debtors prisons, where I could be put to death for being raped, or watch people play soccer with human heads, Perhaps people weren't numbers but were simply considered not human at all and I could pack a lunch and watch the Christians be fed to the lions or watch the mentally ill be tortured for entertainment.
Children crippled or "hobbled" so that they couldn't run away from factories that they were forced to work in, factories that during the industrial revolution polluted the air every bit as much as they do now.
Yes these things still happen, but I am so fortunate I live in a time where people are horrified by them.I think we are almost cursed with brains that can imagine a state of perfection we fumbling well intentioned souls will never achieve.
