It doesn't sound like a very positive time for you Shar. You suffer from major depression, right? That's considered one of the severe mental disorders- depression, anxiety- particularly panic disorder or PTSD, schizophrenia, bipolar and I think one other. It really depends on how debilitating it is, and only you can answer that question. I guess I think of all the years I paid into social security and I'm glad it was there for me. I do have to add that Medicare is good for general medicine but pretty useless for mental health, practically no one takes it and of course there is no prescription coverage. I hope you consider it an option, you can always go back to work once you feel better, and with the proper people helping you apply, it is not stressful at all (at least for me). take care, judy
