I downloaded that program Ayuda mentioned and I had something like 400 FILES of nonsense that had been downloaded without my knowledge!
The program I downloaded was Ad Aware (free). It doesn't work in the background, but it does clean house whenever you start the program.
Wish I could download something that would sort out all the nonsense in my own (mental) operating system that quick! I felt like I had done spring house cleaning when I hit the "delete" button and saw all those files disappear.
Some programs even had notes that said things like "tried to hijack browser."
