The other way to look at it is that I know lots of people who realize at 40 or so that their thinking about risks earlier in life was way too short sighted--they wish they had considered what it would be like to deal with the long term effects of certain decisions. So, hopefully, at 19, or 25, etc, you can take a moment to envision yourself still wanting life to be good at 40 or 50 or beyond (afterall we will live longer than previous generations), and still being able to live a good life--perhaps a better life--as you get older--because you might be glad you did.

Now this doesn't mean I agree that responsible medical use of a benzo constitutes a bad risk! I think that was the original discussion? But if it isn't a good choice for someone in the long run, I hope they don't make a choice on the basis of thinking that long term effects that could show up at 40 are irrelevant.

Of course, if this was all just a lighthearted comment, don't fret my little lecture!
