environment etc.

Dr. Bob, rather than redirect, suggested I bring this thought to social.

In our ag business we are incessentaly plagued with do-gooders who are trying to save the world by creating this or that environmental-etc issue. There are anti cruelty to animals activists, who demand the abolition of branding and casteration of young calves. There are those who object to genetic modification of seed and caracass. There are also those who will come and plant coyotes in the middle of a sheep area to improve the balance of nature. The bear population in a cattle grazing area is increased. Pesticides to prevent the spreading of noxious weeds is frowned upon. You name it, the issues are endless.

My husband's pet peeve is that if people were really concerned about their health, they would lobby the government to abolish alcohol and tobacco. Well, now I read here that maybe it's the coffee that creates the anxiety that drives people to divert their attention to these issues to save the world.

(Sorry Bob, I think I'm making this worse :)

And the last post I read implies people who for generations have abused drugs and alcohol :

My husband, who is always right :) also wonders why alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, and coffee are so socially accepted that the world seems to revolve around the coffee break, and thinks our human condition is degenerating more because of these issues, than by the do-gooder save the world ones.

I say, leave the farmer and rancher alone so they can produce the real food in a cost-effective environment, without lawyer suits, and government lobbiest dues, and the like to pay for, or pretty soon the WalMarts among us will be selling flush toilets for feedlots and demanding we train our cattle to use them.

I'll quit now with the hope that I did not offend everyone.
