You have the right idea, and that is half the battle: small steps. The hare may be more glamorous, but the tortoise - slow, steady, patient, insistent - gets the goal. Hang in there, and give a curled lip to any and all impatient naysayers.
When I falter, as I sometimes do, I like to think of two apothegms: an old Italian proverb, "You cannot make your life longer, so you must make it deeper." And, by E.M. Barrett: "The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth."
