If you're willing to come to Toronto I can give you the info for a place that you can get properly assessed but is there not anywhere in Ottawa that will do that??? Although now that I think about it, when I went for my first orientation at the place I went to, there was a girl there who came from Midland. That shocked me because they have a huge psychiatric hospital yet she had to come all the way down to Toronto.
I have the same problem with getting a pdoc. I'm 'too complex'. Now I have a pdoc from the place that I was assessed at trying to find me one. I felt he showed a sense of urgency to finding the 'right' pdoc for me that specializes in my problems and getting me on a mood stabilizer immediately. Alas, I'm still waiting.
Have you not been able to find any pdoc to take you on??? Worst case scenerio, you could get your meds from your GP as I have had to do. The big drawback to that, is my GP put me on the meds and I'm at the point that they are far from working and he has come to the end of his expertise in that area and no longer makes any changes. So here I am on meds that have horrible side effects and I'm extremely suicidal once again and nobody is looking after me.
You could also look for a therapist that is covered by the government. I had one before but I hated her style. So right now I'm without anyone. :(
If I can help you get a diagnosis, let me know. I think it is a travesty that you have been trying to get help since 89 and can't find it.
And again I'll repeat
THE CANADIAN MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM SUCKS!!!!
