I live in Virginia, where there are parity laws on the books. Unfortunately, they don't apply to my insurance, since my employer (a pediatric hospital) self-administers the plan. My plan falls under federal, not state, regulation. It my employer who determines mental health benefits and they have decided to give me only 20 outpatient (therapy) visits per year. That gives me less than two per month, which is not enough in my opinion. Therapy is a kind of 'medicine' in that it helps the person get better. They don't limit medication for depression and they shouldn't limit therapy either.
