Hi Judy,
If you liked In Session for explaining counter-transference, you should really enjoy Shrink Rap. It doesn't read as well as In Session. In Session is written as stories, Shrink Rap is just questions and answers. But Shrink Rap sure gave me an insight into the mind of a therapist. Not every therapist I hope. :) Well, that's not fair. Some of the therapists sounded like they would be great to work with, some frankly didn't. But it was educational.
My therapist is relatively transparent and open. It isn't terribly hard to guess what he's thinking. And I've used In Session and Shrink Rap to help frame questions about things that were bothering me - things that I may have been too polite to "notice" before reading those books.
I don't know. Maybe therapy is supposed to have some mystery in order to work. But I find it so confusing at the best of times that I like to learn all I can about it.
