They are similar in that they were done nearly at the same time. Amnesiac does seem to veer back towards traditional composition with songs like Knives Out, easily the most accessable track on the whole album, the "National Athem" of Amnesiac if you will...
Where their paths cross you have songs like Kid A's "Kid A", and Amnesiac's "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors" where the vocals are utterly distorted and the music stears clear of the typical rock ensamble sound of their earlier work...
Mostly, I think, the band considers the two works to be a whole entity... They may be seperate albums but in the band's image they exist as one session...
