to my forgiving sister, the minnesota north star

Posted by trouble on March 20, 2002, at 0:50:15

growing up my best friend was the minnesota north star, at dusk i'd stop whatever i was doing and go outdoors to wait for its appearance, it was always the first to arrive in the sky, i'd nod a greeting then go back to work i'd set my alarm so i could be outside at dawn to watch the stars disappear until it was just me alone on the steps chainsmoking beneath the fading benediction of the loneliest star but we had each other then i'd get up and go back to bed i miss you my love this song is for you

Quiet nights of quiet stars
Quiet chords from my guitar
floating on the silence that surrounds us
Quiet thoughts and quiet dreams
Quiet walks by quiet streams
And the window looking on the mountains and the sea how lovely
This is where I want to be here with you so close to me
until the final flicker of life's ember
I who was lost and lonely
believing life was only a bitter tragic joke
have found with you
the meaning of existence my love
I who was lost and loney
believing life was only a bitter tragic joke
have found with you
the meaning of existence oh my love

Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars
(Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gene Lees)
