Kristi

Seems like a pretty screwy judicial system when cases are set for trial 2 years out. This was filed awhile ago wasn't it? Unfortunately with this kind of scheduling, there's probably not alot of inducement for the insurance company to settle sooner than later. They get the use of the money in the meantime.

I assume that any new laws wouldn't apply to cases that have already been filed, right? Usually laws like that do not operate retroactively. The docs are all keen on laws like this and the republicans love to blame almost every societal ill on trial lawyers.
You said you had a lien on the doc's assets. Is that because your attorneys expect a verdict in excess of her coverage, or was she actually uninsured? I sincerely hope not the latter.

I wish this could move along more quickly for you. Your's is about as deserving a case as I've heard.

It's nice of you to ask about me. I went into a mid-winter swoon about 6 weeks ago - one of those depressions where you really can't tell whether you're going to come out of it in a week, or whether you're at the beginning of a pretty major episode that's going to just get worse and worse. My therapist decided I needed to treat it like I had the flu or something and take some time off from work to try to break whatever cycle I was settling into. I think I'd have really gotten depressed if I just sat around my house looking at the bleak countryside. My sweet spouse came up with the idea of having me visit a good friend in Fla. It worked pretty well - my friend was working most of the 5 days i was there, so I just hung out at her house and slept alot and read books - definitely quantity over quality. I was trying to adjust to some different levels of my meds and get my sleep cycle back on track and it was nice not to have to do that in the context of trying to work and take care of my family. I was pretty fortunate that timing-wise I was able to take the time and the plan turned out to be a good one. I've had some ups and downs since i got back but overall I'm in much better shape. I think a few years ago she could've made this kind of suggestion and I would have come up with 5 different reasons why I couldn't go - I don't think my circumstances have changed that much but think I've come to appreciate that I can't risk having small depressions turn into bigger ones.

BTW there's lots of people who visit regularly who'd never forget you so don't worry about jumping back in.

Mair

PS Are you still not smoking?
