Book recommendation

Posted by PaulB on December 18, 2001, at 17:14:45

I would like to recommend the book Wisdom of Depression : A Guide to Understanding and Curing Depression Using Natural Medicine by Jonathan Zeuess.

Despite the subtitle their is a very good section on prescription psychotropic drugs. Their are all sorts of interesting stuff and the main title speaks for itself. The book has sections on art and depression, creativity, dreams and alternative healing such as light therapy.

Theres quite a bit on nutrtion and healing: Two chapters that run through natural supplements such as amino acids, B-Vitamins, magnesium , calcium fatty acids etc. It was this book that introduced me to L-Tyrosine which I no longer take as I have reverted back to prescription medication.

I think Zeuess endorses St Johns Wort quite heavily and has been very impressed with its effect.

Theres a good biliography and references as to where to obtain natural lights and sources of natural medicine. It is an inspiring book that certainly deserves a place on my bookshelf. As with Soloman's 'The Noonday Demon' there are case studies on other people's experiences which you might find interesting should you choose to read it.

While on the subject of books has anybody read any of Mr Preskorns books. His website has been referenced here at Bob's a few times and I am very impressed with his site. His books are remarkkably cheap too. I would like and appreciate feedback if anyone has read any of them.
