What do you understand the difference to be between "empathic" and "empathetic?" I never could figure it out and was too intimidated at that stage to ask. Of course this is the same guy who also unfortunately felt he had to ask me on a couple of occasions if I was "at risk." Regardless of the awful shape I was in when that question was asked, it still used to rankle me. In my view "at risk" had some particular meaning known only to him and it seemed that he was asking me to draw a conclusion I was not qualified (training-wise) to draw. I'm sure this was nitpicking, but it was a phrase that always made me want to nitpick.
