it seems to me that every part of texas is an island unto itself. dallas is where the money is and where the tv show took place, hence the fake look. oil rigs and mimosa brunches and all that. i'm from san antonio, which no one really knows is quite large and touristy, but really the only thing to do here is smoke pot with your friends and hit Taco Cabana at 3 am. austin is where my heart and school are at, very cool place except when it's *too* cool, like when the coffee shop employees ignore you or you get lynched if you play a depeche mode song.
i don't carry any weapons, but i went to a shooting range out in manor (pronounced "mainer") about a year ago and had a hell of a time. i felt like annie oakley, yall. (i don't like guns but i really enjoy shooting. v. conflicted person, i am.)
i don't have much of an accent, only on a few words, but i like the texas accent too! a good friend of mine is a real country boy and he says "Yooston" instead of "houston" and "awright, sugar" etc--he's also intelligent and witty so it's very endearing.
everyone here is of german descent! i feel so left out. i'm in san antone right now (willie nelson has a song about it) and no one looks like me. this is a "minority-majority" city, so there are more Chicano folks than other ethnicities. i'm a tall skinny blue-eyed white girl. i think i'm irish, scottish, and russian jew.
according to *COSMOPOLITAN* magazine, everyone in new york has 3-4 pairs of Manolo Blahniks and matching Kate Spade purses. is Cosmo lying to me? now i am v. concerned, as that trash, i mean magazine, was my link to the more progressive NYC etc. i do enjoy fashion and all that, but i wear birkenstocks not manalos. you could put a downpayment on a house for those evil-looking shoes, plus i'm already 5'9", shit--
what qualities of the typical new yorker/manhattanite have you taken on? do you have to walk fast and look down? i would never survive in NY. they would beat me down and find $0.23 in my crocheted purse--
i think combining the 2 states is a good idea. bring NY fashion and movies down here, or lets transport the tejas mentality up there. what do you think, kingfish? could we start planning some sort of renegade secession movement? (but why do i feel like native new yawkers and tejans would hate each other? or would they complement each other and blend well depsite all the differences?)
question from a hick: are texans really that much slower than NYC folk?
