> sarThe laws regarding medical files vary with each state. You should be able to have a copy sent to your new pdoc with no problem. (Refusing this request is a big problem with the Board of Healing Arts, and the AMA)
You can request your own copy, but they can refuse if they think something in the chart would be harmful to the patient....I'd have them forwarded, unless you just want to be difficult. :-)
I would do several things though.
1. Send them a form in writing rescinding any release that you've previously signed.... That way they can't just send info to anyone without your knowing about it. They'd have to contact you for that release.
2. I'd request a copy be sent to you. Remember, they can charge you a 'nominal' copying fee.
3. If they refuse, have them sent to your new pdoc.
Obtaining the originals is practically impossible.
