I'm glad you were there. So now you see that he is very open about his own depression, although this talk was more about how therapists need to get more understanding of what depression feels like.
As for being recognized, no one would have known why someone else was there. Some were spouses or friends, others were attending for continuing education. And I always feel strange when people know who I am because they must wonder why I'm not all "fixed." When a woman sitting next to me once exclaimed "I wish he could be my therapist," I replied "Me, too." She did a real double take when she found out we were married.> I went to hear him speak, because I had found the book to be so incredible. I had never known before the book, that there are so many personality traits and behavior patterns that I have/do that are typical for people with depression. I have half that book underlined, often refer back to it, and had my therapist get it. I also printed out for my therapist the first chapter you have on your website from the Active Treatment book. Anyway, the talk was really good. I was very apprehensive about possibly running into anyone I know or being recognized, as no one but my husband, therapist and pdoc know of my depression. Anyway, the talk was very good. I was shy about getting my book signed at the end, but then did and spoke briefly with him. Anyway, thanks for the post about his talk.
