My doctor sent me for a mammogram at 37. I went at 38. It took a year to go ahead with it. Later she told me that she prescribes it at 37 so that by the time the woman reaches 40, hopefully she will have actually gotten it done! It isn't the most pleasant thing. But where I went, there was a sort of automatic release mechanism so that as soon as the xray is taken, the machine unclamps you, as opposed to having to wait for the technician to come back and do it manually, which, I know, is only about 30 seconds, but that seems like a lifetime in that situation, doesn't it?
