I think you just answered your own question, babe...Christmas. It can send us into a tailspin because we're supposed to do certain things, and we don't want to, and feel a certain way, and sometimes we can't.
My in-laws aren't too bad. What I love best about them is that they live halfway across the country.
My own family makes me crazy (no pun intended);
they're so incredibly high-maintenance, I kind of hate them by the time they leave. I always make gallons of rum-spiked eggnog, although I don't bother too much with the eggnog part by day 2 or 3...
This isn't very sporting, but maybe just for this year you could have a terrible toothache and must skip the in-laws? I have a cousin who always gets a "migraine" at the appropriate time. This doesn't bother me at all, I think she's smart.
