tdaneen, I'm really glad that your hospitalization helped you. Mine have also helped me, but from many of the posts, I realize that many people on this board feel worse when they're in the hospital.
I consider my positive experiences in the hospital are due to being in a small unit, with a good staff, and maybe the absence of psychosis on the particular unit I go to (one specifically for dissociative disorders). When I was young I had a horrible experience on a larger, sort of all-purpose unit, and from that experience I can understand why people hate and are afraid of hospitals. I felt depressed, lonely and disconnected during that hospitalization--basically like I was in hell.
What was helpful to you about being in the hospital? Did you get individual attention there?
Help with meds, and or therapy.I wish I had a list of really good hospitals to go into around the country, so everyone would feel they have a safe place to go when they fall into their black pit. There are many times I have not gone in, but the thought that it is there has made a lot of difference to me.
